Overview
Applicability
The adopted regulations apply to commercial vehicles with a gross weight or combined gross weight of 10,001 or more pounds, as well as to commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 or more pounds. Vehicles transporting hazardous materials requiring placarding are also subject.
The adopted rules do not apply to combination vehicles provided the gross vehicle weight rating of the power unit is 10,000 pounds or less and the gross combination weight rating is 26,000 pounds or less.
The adopted regulations for a driver apply to a driver of a commercial motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, or hauling hazardous materials required to be placarded. Special exceptions exist for farmers.
The regulations concerning driver qualification, hours of service, and recordkeeping requirements do not apply to the operators of public utility trucks, trucks hauling gravel, construction trucks and equipment, trucks moving implements of husbandry, and special trucks, other than a truck tractor, operating intrastate. Trucks for hire on construction projects are not exempt.
