The CSA Safety Management Cycle is a model that provides a holistic systems view of the management processes and safety improvement practices a carrier should have in place in order to ensure compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. The six Safety Management Processes in the cycle are areas which an FMCSA auditor (Safety Investigator) systematically explores to discover what safety management processes are broken or not in place, thus identifying the process breakdowns. The detailed bullets for each Safety Management Process represent what FMCSA subject matter experts feel are the key safety improvement practices, specific to each BASIC, needed to ensure this process area is being managed.
