State Info
In Nebraska, all public and private employers who are subject to the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Act are required to establish safety committees. Committees must be made up of an equal number of employer and employee representatives, with employee representatives selected by regulated procedures. (If an employer is subject to collective bargaining agreements, the safety committee must be formed through the collective bargaining process.)
Committees must meet on a regular basis, in most cases at least once during every three months of operation.
The purpose of the safety committee is to establish a cooperative effort to promote workplace safety. Committees review safety and health hazards and incidents and make recommendations to employers to address potential issues.
Employers must provide each safety committee with an effective written injury prevention program.
