North Dakota has adopted Sec. 390.15 of the Federal Regulations, which includes accident recordkeeping requirements.
Applicability
Section 390.15 applies to intrastate commercial motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight, gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight, and gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, or a vehicle used to transport hazardous materials requiring a placard.
Notification
The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury or death of a person or property damage amounting to $4,000 or more must immediately notify local law enforcement of the accident.
How to obtain accident reports
Procedure
To obtain a copy of a state of North Dakota crash report, the requester must be able to provide two of the following three items: date of crash, last name, county of crash.
Crash reports are available via the North Dakota Department of Transportation website: https://www.dot.nd.gov/travel-and-safety/safety/purchase-crash-report.
Fees
A fee of $7.00 is charged for each crash report.
