Newfoundland has implemented, without any deviations, the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrator’s (CCMTA) standards and inspection criteria as contained in the revised Maintenance Standard.
The new Regulations provide for the inspection by class of vehicle, of motor vehicles and trailers at Official Inspection Stations. Such inspection stations must hold a Certificate of Appointment from the Minister of Government Services and Lands.
Cars, light trucks and vans with a registered mass of 4,500 kilograms or less are required to be inspected at an official inspection station prior to the transfer of ownership, following the sale of the vehicle.
School Buses must be inspected every July and December each year from the age of six months.
Buses must be inspected every March and September each year from the age of six months.
Commercial Vehicles and Trailers are required to be inspected at the age of one model year and each year thereafter. Any commercial trailer that does not have a manufacturer’s identification plate or sticker must also be inspected prior to first registration.
