Federal regulations
Oregon has adopted Part 393of the Federal Regulations.
Applicability
Part 393 applies to intrastate and interstate operations when the vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or is of any size transporting a placardable amount of hazardous materials.
First aid kit
No requirement.
Mudflaps
All fenders and mudguards must be of sufficient size and must be constructed so they arrest and deflect any dirt, mud, water, or other substance that may be picked up and carried by the wheels. There are three types of fenders and mudguards specified in ORS 815.180.
The types of vehicles that must be equipped with one of the three types of fenders and mudguards include:
- every motor truck equipped with a body that has a registration weight of 8,000 pounds or more;
- every trailer;
- every motor truck not equipped with a body that has a registration weight of 8,000 pounds or more;
- a pole trailer;
- a jeep used in the movement of nondivisible heavy loads;
- a booster;
- a lowboy;
- a container chassis; and
- every commercial bus.
Tire chains
Tire chains are required to be used when conditions demand because of snow, ice, or other inclement weather and signs are posted.
When chains are required to be carried and the appropriate signs are posted, chains of sufficient size and number must be in or on the vehicle.
