Part 393 applies to all intrastate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating, or gross combination weight rating, or gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 26,001 pounds or more, whichever is greater, and any vehicles transporting hazardous materials required to be placarded.
No requirements.
No tire may have blocks, studs, flanges, cleats, spikes, or other protuberances of any material other than rubber projecting beyond the tread surface.
Exception — Regular and snow tires with studs which project beyond the tread of the traction surface of the tire not more than one sixteenth of an inch when compressed are allowed for increased safety.
Tire chains of reasonable size are allowed when required for safety because of snow, ice, or other conditions tending to cause a vehicle to slide or skid.
