Federal regulations

Kentucky has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Regulations.

Applicability

Part 393 applies to for-hire and private vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or transporting hazardous materials which require placarding.

Tire chains

When icy road conditions exist, tire chains may be used on rubber-tired vehicles. The cross chains may not be more than ¾ of an inch in thickness or diameter and may not be spaced more than 10 inches apart, around the circumference of the tires.
