Manitoba prohibits the use of hand-operated electronic devices while driving. A hand-operated electronic device includes cell phones, electronic devices with telephone functions, and electronic devices that are not cell phones but that are capable of receiving e-mails or text-based messages.

The hand-operated electronic device rules do not apply to the use of a mobile data terminal that is used for dispatch or other business-related communications in a vehicle used for business purposes, and is not held in the driver’s hand while the vehicle is moving.
