This standard provides guidelines for the installation and maintenance of fire door assemblies, windows, glass blocks, and shutters to restrict the spread of fire and smoke within buildings. This standard applies whether interior or exterior fires, and includes arrangements for automatic operation. The standard does not establish the degree of protection required or to constitute approval of any product. Among other things, the standard requires that sliding doors shall not be used on access openings to exit stairways, fire escapes or exit ramps, nor on exits to the exterior of the building.
