This standard provides safe work practice instructions for employees required to work on live electrical components/systems. It discusses installing, operating, maintaining, and demolishing electrical wiring and equipment. OSHA does not incorporate this standard but does issue General Duty Clause citations using it as a “best practice” reference/solution to electrical hazards when a specific OSHA rule does not address the hazard.
Incorporation by reference
This standard has not been incorporated by reference (IBR) into the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
How to purchase
Standards are available for purchase from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), see webstore.ansi.org, and from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), see catalog.nfpa.org.
