An employer is allowed to choose the cleaning and disinfecting program the best meets the requirements of the standard and the particular circumstances of the workplace. It is OSHA policy that if the employer elects to have employees clean their own respirators, the employer must provide the cleaning and disinfecting equipment, supplies, and facilities, as well as time for the job to be done. Failure to do so would be a violation of paragraph (h)(1) of the standard.
