Employers are responsible for having SDSs for all hazardous chemicals that are in the workplace. OSHA does not require nor encourage employers to maintain SDSs for non-hazardous chemicals. Consequently, an employer is free to discard those for non-hazardous chemicals, and OSHA encourages employers to use their professional judgment in removing unnecessary SDSs from the company’s files.
