- Has two axles and a gross vehicle weight or registered gross vehicle weight exceeding 26,000 pounds; or
- Has three or more axles regardless of weight; or
- Is used in combination, when the weight of such combination exceeds 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight.

Fuel use tax
Georgia-based carriers operating exclusively within the state are not required to join IFTA. These vehicles will be identified by the fact that their Georgia license tags are not apportioned/IRP tags. If these carriers wish to travel to another state they must either obtain a trip permit for that state, or register as an IFTA carrier. When operating exclusively within Georgia, carriers are not required to register with the Motor Fuel Tax Unit, obtain the fuel tax cab cards/license, purchase or display decals on the vehicle, or file quarterly or annual reports.
Mileage/highway use taxes
Georgia does not impose a highway use tax.
Tax refunds or credits
IFTA
Information regarding credits or refunds under IFTA is included in the IFTA Agreement Manual.
Credit for any fuel withdrawn and used from bulk storage is taken on the quarterly IFTA return.
PTO/Reefer fuel
There are no provisions for refunds of fuel used inreefer equipment. The State of Georgia also does not allow credit or refunds on fuel used inoff-road or power-take-off equipment.
