Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
The federal minimum wage provisions are contained in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Many states also have minimum wage laws. In cases where an employee is subject to both the state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the higher of the two minimum wages.
Effective January 1, 2025, the minimum wage for Ohio employees is $10.70 per hour ($5.35 for tipped employees).
Effective January 1, 2023, the minimum wage for Ohio employees is $10.45 per hour ($5.25 for tipped employees).
For employees at smaller companies with annual gross receipts of $385,000 or less per year after January 1, 2024, and for 14- and 15-year-olds, the state’s minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.
Effective January 1, 2023, the minimum wage for Ohio employees is $10.10 per hour ($5.05 for tipped employees).
