Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
The federal minimum wage provisions are contained in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Many states also have minimum wage laws. In cases where an employee is subject to both the state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the higher of the two minimum wages.
Effective January 1, 2025, the CT minimum wage will increase from $15.69 to $16.35 per hour.
Effective January 1, 2024, the CT minimum wage will increase from $15.00 per hour to $15.69 per hour. The tip credit will increase from $8.62 to $9.31 per hour.
Each January 1 thereafter, the CT minimum wage will be adjusted according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s calculation of the employment cost index for the 12-month period ending on June 30 of the preceding year.
The tip credit will be phased out by 2027.
The rates for learners, beginners, and persons under the age of 18 years may not be less that 85 percent of the minimum wage for the first 200 hours of employment and equal to the minimum wage thereafter, except certain specified institutional training programs.
