Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
The federal minimum wage provisions are contained in the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Many states also have minimum wage laws. In cases where an employee is subject to both the state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the higher of the two minimum wages.
Effective July 1, 2027, the Alaska minimum wage is $15.00 per hour.
Effective July 1, 2026, the Alaska minimum wage is $14.00 per hour.
Effective July 1, 2025, the Alaska minimum wage is $13.00 per hour.
Effective January 1, 2024, the Alaska minimum wage is $11.73 per hour.
Effective January 1, 2023, the Alaska minimum wage is $10.85 per hour.
The minimum wage is increased annually. In November 2024, voters approved minimum wage increase.
Tips or gratuities may not be credited toward the state minimum wage obligation.
Public school bus drivers will receive a wage of not less than two times the minimum wage rate.
Effective February 16, 2018, Alaska employers are no longer allowed to pay less than minimum wage to employees with disabilities.
