State Info
The EPA has not had regulatory authority over medical waste since the Medical Waste Tracking Act of 1988 expired in 1991. Most states have since developed their own programs, resulting in significant differences for each state. A summary of this state’s requirements includes the following.
Connecticut's medical waste regulations are located in the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies (22a RCSA 209-15). The regulations cover:
- 209-15(b) Requirements for generators of biomedical waste,
- 209-15(c) Requirements for storage of biomedical waste,
- 209-15(d) Requirements for transfer of biomedical waste,
- 209-15(e) Requirements for transportation of biomedical waste,
- 209-15(f) Requirements for treatment and disposal of biomedical waste,
- 209-15(g) Requirements for biomedical waste transporters,
- 209-15(h) Requirements for tracking biomedical waste, and
- 209-15(i) Recordkeeping and requirements for generators, transporters, and solid waste facilities.
