Health and Safety Code, Chapter 779: Automated External Defibrillators. Provides definitions, requires training (a licensed physician needs to be involved), testing and maintenance of the unit, notification of emergency medical service providers if used, and for liability exemption for the prescribing physician, trainer, and acquirer of the unit.
Civil Practice and Remedies Code, Chapter 74: Good Samaritan Law. Provides immunity for those who provide emergency, barring negligence.
Health and Safety Code, Chapter 242: Use of automated external defibrillators in nursing homes and related institutions. Requires institutions to have available an AED. Use must be consistent with resident’s advance directives. An institution must have at least one trained person. Goes into effect September 1, 2012.
