A summary of the additional requirements includes the following:
- Covers that could cause crushing injuries must be fastened, secured, or blocked to prevent them from closing on employees. Overhead doors that could cause crushing injuries must be provided with a constant pressure closing switch, safety edge, pressure relief mechanism, or three button control station.
- Manual lubrication of moving machinery may be performed during building and in-plant maintenance and repair only if access to lubrication fittings is safeguarded or is located far enough away from moving parts that employees cannot contact them.
- Extractors, mixers, mullers, and centrifuges (except for those with drive motors of less than one-quarter horsepower or those used in research laboratories) must be guarded and in a secure position as outlined in the standard.
- Operators of machines with points of operation, pinch points, or nip points must be able to cut off the power to each machine without leaving the position at the point of operation.
- Foot actuated machines must have the treadle or pedal physically protected to prevent unintended operation.
- The motor start button on machines with exposed points of operation, pinch points, or nip points must be physically protected to prevent unintended operation.
- Hydraulic presses must have a barrier guard where materials may be ejected from the press.
