Transportation of Hazardous Materials
The ISP does not require a permit to transport hazardous materials. Commercial vehicles transporting hazardous materials within the state are routinely inspected for compliance with the HMR located within the CFR.
For more information, visit Hazardous Material Inspection at www.in.gov/isp.
Transportation of Hazardous Waste
A hazardous waste transporter must have a United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identification (ID) number; however, it doesn’t have to be an Indiana number. A transporter who has not received a United States EPA ID number may obtain one by applying on forms provided by the commissioner.
Hazardous waste must be properly labeled, and the transportation vehicles must be properly carded prior to transportation. A transporter may not accept hazardous waste from a generator unless the transporter is also provided with a signed manifest form. The IDEM does not require a permit to transport hazardous waste.
For more information, visit Waste Transportation at www.in.gov/idem.
