If a physician prescribes over-the-counter medication at prescription strength for a work-related injury, then the case is considered recordable. A single dose that is considered prescription strength for ibuprofen is 467 mg or greater. To find out if the doctor did prescribe an over-the-counter medication at prescription strength, you should contact the doctor or pharmacist.
If the incident did not result in days away from work, restriction, job transfer, or any other recordable criteria, the strength of the medication would make the difference between a recordable case and a non-recordable.
