When using a designated area on a low-slope roof, OSHA requires that the area be delineated by a warning line. The line has to be constructed out of rope, wire, tape, or chain that is as close to the work area as possible. The warning line must:
- Have a minimum breaking strength of 200 pounds,
- Have a height of 34–39 inches at its lowest point, and
- Be clearly visible from 25 feet away.
A safety monitor is not allowed for designated areas used in general industry.
