Tools are such a common part of our lives that it is difficult to remember that they pose hazards. Employees should be trained in the use of all tools — not only power tools. They should understand potential hazards and safety precautions to prevent those hazards from occurring.
The Hand and Power Tools standard in Construction protects employees using all tools defined in this standard while engaged in construction activities including hand tools, power-operated tools, abrasive wheels, woodworking tools, jacks, air receivers, and mechanical power-transmission apparatus.
The standard applies to tools and equipment used in construction activities, unless specified by exceptions within requirements listed in this standard.
