Non-IFTA carriers operating IFTA-qualified vehicles into New Mexico must obtain a fuel trip permit for operation in New Mexico. The permit is valid for a single trip, or 48 hours.

A temporary tax identification permit/registration permit is required for all vehicles greater than 12,000 pounds that do not have the New Mexico weight-distance tax credential.

Fees

Fuel trip permit, $5 plus $0.05/mile

Weight-distance tax permit:

GVW/CGVW	Rate per mile
12,001 - 26,000 lb	$0.07
26,001 - 54,000 lb	$0.12
54,001 - 72,000 lb	$0.15
72,001 lb and over	$0.16
