Fuel/Mileage tax permits - Montana
Carriers without an IFTA license operating qualified vehicles into Montana may obtain a 72-hour fuel trip permit to operate legally in Montana. The permit is obtained at weigh stations.
Nonresident special fuel user temporary trip permits may be required for nonresident persons operating the following special fuel-powered equipment or vehicles into Montana:
- Agricultural harvesting equipment that is over 26,000 pounds gross weight or registered gross weight; or
- Vehicles over 26,000 pounds gross weight or registered gross weight that are being used to move the person's agricultural products.
