Mississippi is under federal OSHA jurisdiction which covers most private sector workers within the state. State and local government workers are not covered by federal OSHA.
Underground utility facilities
Under Mississippi law regulating excavations near underground utility facilities (Miss. Code Ann. §§ 77-13-1 to 77-13-37), excavators must give notice of proposed excavations to the states’ one-call notification system so that the system can notify operators of underground utilities in the area to locate and mark their utilities to prevent accidental damage, interruption of service, or injury to excavation workers.
