Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Polygraph protection
North Carolina does not have state-level polygraph protection requirements. Private-sector employees are provided protection under federal requirements at 29 CFR Part 801.
Polygraph examiners
Polygraph examiners need to be licensed by the state Private Protective Services Board. The qualifications for obtaining a license include that the person must be a high school graduate or equivalent; provide a criminal records check; meet work experience requirements; provide his/her fingerprints and a photograph to the Board, pass an approved course of formal instruction, and pass an examination administered by the Board.
