Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Polygraph protection
Indiana does not have state-level polygraph protection requirements. Private-sector employees are provided protection under federal requirements at 29 CFR Part 801.
Polygraph examiners
The Indiana State Police Department will issue a certificate of competence to operate a polygraph instrument to applicants who provide evidence that they have successfully completed formal training in the use of polygraph instruments, provide evidence that demonstrates their experience and competence, and successfully pass a written examination.
Individuals who do not have a certificate of competence to operate a polygraph instrument may not use the title “certified polygraph examiner,” “polygraph examiner,” or “polygraph operator.”
