Life insurance
Alaska law does not mandate life insurance, but provides rules for group life insurance that may be of interest to benefits managers. The provisions include the following:
Dependents may be covered
Alaska Stat. §21.48.010, Group requirements for group contracts.
There is a 31-day grace period
Alaska Stat. §21.48.110, Grace period.
A copy of the policyholder’s application, if any, needs to be attached to the policy when issued
Alaska Stat. §21.48.130, Application.
If covered employees terminate employment, they are entitled to have an individual policy issued, as long as application is made within 31 days after the termination.
Alaska Stat. §21.48.180, Conversion on termination of eligibility.
If the policy terminates, employees who have been covered for at least five years are entitled to have an individual policy issued.
