Federal regulations
Nevada has adopted Part 392 of the Federal Regulations.
Applicability
Part 392 applies to intrastate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight, gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, or gross combination weight of 26,001 or more pounds, or any vehicle transporting hazardous materials as defined in NRS 459.7024.
Engine idling
The engine of a diesel truck or bus may not idle for more than 15 consecutive minutes.
Exceptions — There are exceptions for:
- state issued variances;
- emergency vehicles;
- snow removal;
- repair or maintenance of other vehicles;
- traffic congestion;
- emission contained and treated by a state approved method; and
- performing a specific task for which the vehicle is designed (well drilling, trenching, hoisting) when an air pollution emergency is not in effect.
Speed limit
Speed limit on Nevada highways varies, from 55 mph to 80 mph. Compliance with the posted speed limit is required.
