Some state laws require certified laboratories to be used and specific laboratory procedures to be followed.
Lab requirements in some states must be followed in order for a positive test to affect an employee’s ability to receive workers’ compensation or unemployment insurance benefits. Other states require certified laboratories to be used for all testing.
Even if state law does not require it, it is a best practice to have a sample tested by a certified laboratory to confirm a positive test result.
