Failing to be flexible with drug testing procedures can be costly to a company. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires employers to provide a reasonable accommodation during the application and hiring process unless it can show that providing the accommodation would cause undue hardship. If a prospective employee is unable to provide a urine sample for medical reasons, the company should consider offering blood or hair testing as an alternative.
