If the electrical panel came from the manufacturer with a door then the door needs to stay on the panel. The thought is if the panel was purchased with a door, there was a reason for that.
OSHA address this at 1910.303(b)(2) Installation and use. Listed or labeled equipment shall be installed and used in accordance with any instructions included in the listing or labeling.
