Yes, applicants for safety-sensitive positions must register with FMCSA’s CDL Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse in order to grant access to the pre-employment query. Driver applicants must log into the portal to electronically provide authorization.

The pre-employment query is a full query, which requires the driver’s portal account to provide consent. A full query provides all details in the event the driver has a records in the system.
