Alaska has incorporated the recordkeeping rule in 29 CFR Part 1904 by reference, with minor revisions.
Reporting injuries within eight hours
The state statute requires reporting a work-related fatality, in-patient hospitalization, amputation, or loss of an eye. The employer must report orally by telephone or in person, “immediately” (no later than 8 hours) to the nearest office of the Division of Labor Standards and Safety or by telephone to the federal toll-free number. This does not apply if an employer first receives information of a fatality or in-patient hospitalization more than 30 days after the accident.
The number is 1-800-770-4940. After hours, leave detailed message or call the federal 24-hour hotline at 1-800-321-6742.
In the event of an accident that is fatal to one or more employees or that results in an in-patient hospitalization of two or more employees, do not move or alter the equipment, material, or product related to the injury or fatality until clearance is given by the department, except when this would interfere for an unreasonable length of time with work or create additional hazards. If equipment, material, or products must be moved or altered before department clearance, the employer must submit a detailed investigative report of the accident to the division.
