Federal: 29 CFR 1910.146 and Appendices A through F
A summary of the additional requirements includes the following:
- Consider all confined spaces to be immediately dangerous to life or health unless proven otherwise.
- Do not permit any firefighter to enter a confined space for firefighting operations, including emergency rescue operations, without wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- Confined spaces include wells, cisterns, tunnels, pits, and other such spaces where oxygen deficiency or hazardous airborne materials, or both, may be present.
