Class 9 placards

Regulation

172.504(f)(9)

Regulation summary

Section 172.504(f)(9) establishes placarding requirements for Class 9 materials shipped domestically.

Question/Dilemma

A carrier inquires if the trailer should be placarded and if the driver is required to have any type of hazardous materials license or permit. In this interpretation, PHMSA addresses placards and CDL hazardous materials endorsements.

Interpretation summary

In interpretation Ref. No. 09-0077, PHMSA advises that Class 9 materials are not required to be placarded when shipped domestically.
