This standard covers the general safety rules for handling compressed gas containers and provides guidance in filling and maintenance; container usage, moving and storing; and how to connect the container and withdraw the contents. It also has a section on the safe handling of flammable gases, oxygen, acid and alkaline gases, and highly toxic gases.
All containers that are transported must comply with the DOT requirements for filling and marking. If an employer changes gas services, all original contents must be cleaned and purged from the existing containers.
Written guidelines for container filling procedures should be available to appropriate employees.
