Dear Mr. Barley:
This is in response to your correspondence of July 25, requesting clarification of the requirements of [29 CFR 1926.702(c)].
The intent of [29 CFR 1926.702(c)] is to prevent rotation of the trowel machine handle, after release of the operator's hands from equipment handles. A centrifugal safety switch which precludes the concrete trowel machine from rotating less than a revolution of the handle after release appears to comply with the requirements of the above mentioned standard.
If we may be of further assistance, please feel free to call or write.
Sincerely,
John B. Miles, Jr., Director
Directorate of Field Operations
