In Louisiana, a person may not operate a hand-held phone to engage in a call while operating a vehicle during the posted hours within a school zone.
The school zone prohibition only applies when signs are posted indicating hand-held cell phone use is prohibited while operating a vehicle.
This prohibition does not apply to:
- Communication with law enforcement or other emergency services,
- Use by law enforcement and emergency personnel, or
- Operation of a phone when lawfully parked.
