• Drivers may drive up to 4 hours if after the driving time, the driver takes at least 10 minutes off duty.
• Drivers may drive up to 6 hours if after the driving time the driver takes at least 30 minutes off duty.
• Once every 7 days, the driver may reduce the 8 hour off-duty period to as little as 4 consecutive hours by adding the reduced hours to the next 8-hour off-duty time. This option requires that the driver’s on-duty time immediately preceding the off-duty time does not exceed 15 hours.
(c)
Logs not required if driver operates within 160 km radius from home terminal and returns to the home terminal, is released within 15 hours from the start of the work shift, and carrier keeps records, for a period of six months, of the driver's shift start and end times.
The cumulative time hour rule does not apply to drivers operating point-to-point in Alberta.

• School buses, and
• Trucks or truck tractors with a licensed GVW exceeding 11,794 kg.
• 13 hours driving per day and workshift.
• No driving after 14 hours on duty.
• No driving after 16 hours elapsed time.
• 10 hours off duty required per day, 2 hours of the 10 must be distributed throughout the day in blocks of no less than 30 minutes.
• 24 hours off duty required every 14 days.
• After reaching 13 hours driving, 14 hours on duty, or 16 hours elapsed, driver must take at least 8 consecutive hours off duty.

Drivers operating within 160 km of home terminal and returning there for at least 8 hours off duty are exempt from daily log if the carrier records, for a period of 6 months:
• The driver’s duty status and cycle.
• The start/end time of each duty status and total hours in each duty status.
• Operators of vehicles with a GVW of 11,794 kg or less.
• 2- or 3-axle vehicles used for farm, forest, sea, or lake products.
• Emergency vehicles.
• Disaster relief vehicles.
• Road building machines, farm tractors, or implements of husbandry.
• Vehicles equipped with a mounted mobile service rig or equipment used to operate or transport a mounted mobile service rig.
• Commercial vehicles driven for personal use. (Vehicle must be unloaded and trailers unhitched; driver must not travel more than 75 kilometres in a day, must note starting/ending odometer readings, and may not be subject to an out-of-service declaration)
• Vehicles engaged in highway, public utility construction, or maintenance work.

Applies to operators of:
• Public service vehicles with a registered gross weight of 4,500 kilograms or more.
• Commercial trucks with a registered gross weight of 4,500 kg or more.
• Vehicles that if operated by a motor carrier is a regulated vehicle.
• 13 hours driving per day and workshift.
• No driving after 14 hours on duty.
• No driving after 16 hours elapsed time.
• 10 hours off duty required per day, 2 hours of the 10 must be distributed throughout the day in blocks of no less than 30 minutes.
• 24 hours off duty required every 14 days.
• After reaching 13 hours driving, 14 hours on duty, or 16 hours elapsed, driver must take at least 8 consecutive hours off duty.
• Cycle 1, 70 hours/7 days
• Cycle 2, 120 hours/14 days
Carriers with drivers operating within a 160 km radius of the home terminal must keep records of driver’s on-duty time and the start/end time of each workshift.
• Farm trucks registered in the farm category.
• Emergency vehicles.
• Disaster relief vehicles.
• Municipal transit buses.
• Buses that are not school buses and not used to transport passengers for compensation.
• Vehicles used only for personal transportation.
• Hearses providing funeral services.
• Manitoba Hydro utility repair vehicles responding to problems or outages.

• A truck, tractor, trailer, or combination that has a gross weight exceeding 4,500 kg.
• A bus with a seating capacity of more than 10 persons, including the driver.
• 13 hours driving per day and workshift.
• No driving after 14 hours on duty.
• No driving after 16 hours elapsed time.
• 10 hours off duty required per day, 2 hours of the 10 must be distributed throughout the day in blocks of no less than 30 minutes.
• 24 hours off duty required every 14 days.
• After reaching 13 hours driving, 14 hours on duty, or 16 hours elapsed, driver must take at least 8 consecutive hours off duty.
• Cycle 1, 70 hours/7 days

• A truck, tractor, trailer, or combination that has a gross weight exceeding 4,500 kg.
• A bus with a seating capacity of more than 10 persons, including the driver.
• 13 hours driving per day and workshift.
• No driving after 14 hours on duty.
• No driving after 16 hours elapsed time.
• 10 hours off duty required per day, 2 hours of the 10 must be distributed throughout the day in blocks of no less than 30 minutes.
• 24 hours off duty required every 14 days.
• After reaching 13 hours driving, 14 hours on duty, or 16 hours elapsed, driver must take at least 8 consecutive hours off duty.
• Cycle 1, 70 hours/7 days
• Cycle 2, 120 hours/14 days
• North of the 60th parallel, on-duty limits are extended to 15 hours of driving or 18 hours of on-duty time (following 8 consecutive hours off duty). Drivers have 20 hours of elapsed time from the start of the workshift to complete driving.
Drivers operating within 160 km of home terminal and returning there for at least 8 hours off duty are exempt from daily log if the carrier records:
• The driver’s duty status and cycle.
• The start/end time of each duty status and total hours in each duty status.
• 2- or 3-axle vehicles used for farm, forest, sea, or lake products.
• Emergency vehicles.
• Disaster relief vehicles.
• Commercial vehicles driven for personal use.
(f)
Applies to drivers operating an "NSC vehicle," which is a commercial vehicle or a public service vehicle that is:
• A truck, truck tractor, or trailer, or a combination, and one or two trailers, where the gross weight of the motor vehicle or the combination of motor vehicles exceeds 4,500 kg; and
• A bus, other than a bus operated by the owner exclusively for his/her personal use.
• 8 hours off duty before beginning the initial period of on duty time in a day.
• No driving after 15 hours driving.
• No driving after 18 hours on duty.
• No driving after 20 hours have elapsed from the start of the workshift.
• After reaching any of the above limits, a driver must have 8 consecutive hours off-duty before driving again.
• 8 hours off duty time required may, once in any period of 7 consecutive days, be reduced to no less than 4 consecutive hours if the on duty time does not exceed 20 hours and the off duty time is at least 8 hours plus the number of hours by which the driver's off duty time was reduced.
• Drivers operating winter road resupply vehicles are subject to less restrictive hours of service limits: No more than 105 hours of on-duty time over a seven-day period. Drivers must take at least eight consecutive hours of off-duty time every 24 hours beginning at midnight on the day the drivers will drive.
Log not required for days:
• The driver operates within a 160 km radius of of the home terminal;
• The driver is on duty for no more than 15 hours and returns to the driver's home terminal to begin off duty time; and
• The carrier maintains for 6 months, accurate records showing the time the driver reports for work, the driver's total on duty hours, and the time the driver goes off duty.
• Two- or three-axle vehicles used to transport farm, forest, sea or lake products;
• Emergency vehicles;
• Recreational vehicles;
• Enforcement vehicles;
• Urban transit service buses;
• Vehicles being used to remove snow or control ice on a highway or a seasonal highway under a contract with a municipal corporation;
• Vehicles used for water delivery or sewage removal under a contract with a municipal corporation;
• Vehicles used to transport goods or passengers to provide disaster relief.
• Winter road resupply vehicles.
Applies to all truck and bus carriers and drivers.
• Cycle 1, 70 hours/7 days (36 hours off-duty time to reset).
• Cycle 2, 120 hours/14 days (72 hours off-duty time to reset).
• All drivers, regardless of cycle, must take 24 hours off-duty time in the preceding 14 days.
• No driving after 13 hours driving or 14 hours on duty.
• 8 hours off duty required before driving.
• Once every 7 days, driver may reduce the 8 hour period to 4 hours as long as the reduced hours are added onto the next period of 8 consecutive hours.
• Log not required if the driver stays within 160 km of home terminal and returns at the end of the day to begin a minimum of 8 consecutive hours of off-duty time.
• Carrier must keep records of driver's on duty time for at least 6 months.
• Trucks registered at 4,500 kg or less.
• 2- or 3-axle vehicles used for farm, forest, sea, or lake products.
• Emergency vehicles.
• Vehicles providing relief in an emergency.
• Municipal public transit service buses.
• Vehicles when driven for personal use .
• Recreational vehicles.

Applies to all drivers of commercial motor vehicles.
• 13 hours driving per day and workshift.
• No driving after 14 hours on duty.
• No driving after 16 hours elapsed time.
• 10 hours off duty required per day, 2 hours of the 10 must be distributed throughout the day in blocks of no less than 30 minutes.
• 24 hours off duty required every 14 days.
• After reaching 13 hours driving, 14 hours on duty, or 16 hours elapsed, driver must take at least 8 consecutive hours off duty.
• After reaching 13 hours driving, 14 hours on duty, or 16 hours elapsed, driver must take at least 8 consecutive hours off duty.
• Cycle 1, 70 hours/7 days (36 hours off-duty time to reset). Cycle 2, 120 hours/14 days (72 hours off-duty time to reset).
Log not required if the driver operates within 160 km of the location the driver starts the day and returns at the end of the day to the same location.
Carrier must keep a record showing:
• Date, driver's name, and location.
• Driver's cycle.
• Hour at which each duty status begins and ends.
• Number of hours on duty and off duty that the driver accumulated each day during the previous 14 days for which the driver was exempt from the regulation and not required to keep a log.
• 2- or 3-axle vehicles used for farm, forest, sea, or lake products.
• Vehicles used for a driver's duties as an inspector.
• Cardiac arrest emergency vehicles.
• Emergency relief vehicles.
• Vehicles operated by or on behalf of a municipality, road authority, or public utility.
• A large crane operated by a large crane operator.
• Public transit service vehicles.
• Pickup trucks used for personal purposes.
• Drivers who are fulfilling duties as volunteer firefighters.

Applies to operators of:
• A truck, tractor, trailer, or combination that has a gross weight exceeding 4,500 kg.
• A bus with a seating capacity of more than 10 persons, including the driver.
• 13 hours driving per day and workshift.
• No driving after 14 hours on duty.
• No driving after 16 hours from the start of the workshift.
• 10 hours off duty required per day, 2 hours of the 10 must be distributed throughout the day in blocks of no less than 30 minutes.
• 24 hours off duty required every 14 days.
• After reaching 13 hours driving, 14 hours on duty, or 16 hours elapsed, driver must take at least 8 consecutive hours off duty.
• Cycle 1, 70 hours/7 days.
• Cycle 2, 120 hours/14 days.
• Hours of service apply to drivers who are operating south of the 60th parallel.
Drivers operating within 160 km of home terminal and returning there for at least 8 hours off duty are exempt from daily log if the carrier records:
• The driver’s duty status and cycle.
• The start/end time of each duty status and total hours in each duty status.
• 2- or 3-axle vehicles used for farm, forest, sea, or lake products.
• Emergency vehicles.

• Buses that are part of the public transit service.
• Commercial vehicles driven for personal use

• 13 hours driving per day and workshift.
• No driving after 14 hours of service.
• No driving after 16 hours elapsed time.
• 10 hours of rest required per day, 2 hours of the 10 must be distributed throughout the day in blocks of no less than 30 minutes.
• 24 hours of rest required every 14 days. After reaching 13 hours driving, 14 hours of service, or 16 hours elapsed, driver must take at least 8 consecutive hours of rest.
• Cycle 1, 70 hours/7 days (36 hours off-duty time to reset).
• Cycle 2, 120 hours/14 days (72 hours off-duty time to reset).
(e)
Drivers operating within 160 km of home terminal and returning there for at least 8 hours of rest are exempt from daily log if the carrier records:
• The driver’s duty status and cycle.
• The start/end time of each duty status and total hours in each duty status.
• Heavy vehicles driven for personal use
• 2- or 3-axle vehicles used to transport farm, forest, or body of water products.
• Emergency vehicles or disaster vehicles.
• Special mobile equipment.
• Farm tractors or farm machinery.
• Urban transport buses or minibuses.
• Combinations less than 4,500 kg (certain length applies).
• Combinations less than 4,500 kg carrying dangerous substances that do not require the display of safety marks.
(f)
• Truck/trailer/semitrailer combinations with a gross vehicle weight that exceeds 5,000 kg.
• Vehicles designed and constructed to have a seating capacity of more than 10 people.
Federal status carriers must follow the federal regulations. (f)
• 8 hours off duty required before driving.
• No driving after 13 hours driving or 15 hours on duty.
• Once in any period of 7 consecutive days, off duty time may be reduced to no less than 4 consecutive hours if the driver's immediately preceding on-duty time did not exceed 15 hours and the driver's off-duty time prior to the beginning of the next period of driving is not less than the aggregate of 8 hours plus the number of hours by the off-duty time was reduced.
Log not required for drivers:
• Operating a commercial vehicle within a 160 km radius of the home terminal.
• Whose on-duty time does not exceed 15 consecutive hours and begins and ends at the home terminal of the carrier.
• When the carrier who employs the driver maintains and retains accurate records of all the drivers’ on-duty time for the preceding 6 months.
• 2- or 3-axle vehicles.
• Emergency vehicles.
• Disaster relief vehicles.
• Class F vehicles.
• Recreational vehicles.
• Urban transit service vehicles.
Applies to operators of:
• A truck, tractor, trailer, or combination that has a gross weight exceeding 4,500 kg.
• A bus with a seating capacity of more than 10 persons, including the driver.
North of the 60th parallel:
• 15 hours driving per day and workshift.
• No driving after 18 hours on duty.
• No driving after 20 hours elapsed time.
• 8 hours off duty required per day.
• 24 hours off duty required every 14 days.
• After reaching 15 hours driving, 18 hours on duty, or 20 hours elapsed, driver must take at least 8 consecutive hours off duty.
• Cycle 1, 80 hours/7 days.
• Cycle 2, 120 hours/14 days.
Drivers operating within 160 km of home terminal and returning there for at least 8 hours off duty are exempt from daily log if the carrier records:
• The driver’s duty status and cycle.
• The start/end time of each duty status and total hours in each duty status.
• 2- or 3-axle vehicles used for farm, forest, lake, or sea products.
• Emergency vehicles.
• Vehicles providing relief in a public welfare emergency.
