At 1910.106(d) OSHA requires only that flammable liquids be stored in “approved” containers. OSHA’s definition of approved is a container that is “acceptable to the authority enforcing the code.” This would include the DOT for shipping containers, or containers that are “listed and labeled” with an approval from Underwriter’s Laboratory, Factory Mutual, or other Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory.
