You may make notes but should do so with care. Make certain that you do not write notes that could be construed as discriminatory. Avoid taking notes on information related to an applicant’s age, race, sex, religion, and membership in other protected groups. Writing down information of this nature could infer that you used an applicant’s protected characteristics to make a hiring decision.
