The requirements for flammable liquid inside storage rooms are in 1910.106(d)(4). There are numerous specifications addressed, including design, ventilation, and wiring.
For some industrial use, OSHA does allows some liquids to be outside of an inside storage room or storage cabinet (in a building or in any one fire area of a building), This amount must not exceed:
- 1910.106(e)(2)(ii)(b)(1) — 25 gallons of Category 1 flammable liquids in containers
- 1910.106(e)(2)(ii)(b)(2) — 120 gallons of Category 2, 3, or 4 flammable liquids in containers
- 1910.106(e)(2)(ii)(b)(3) — 660 gallons of Category 2, 3, or 4 flammable liquids in a single portable tank.
See 1910.106(e)(2) for more information regarding this “incidental storage and use.”
