Tests for the illegal use of alcohol should conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Under the ADA, random alcohol tests are allowed only in very narrow situations, and random tests for alcohol should generally not be conducted unless an employer needs to conduct them to comply with federal laws, such as DOT regulations.
