OSHA does not specifically require signs to warn employees of slipping hazards due to wet floors or other temporary work hazards. However, if an employer determines that the nature of the hazard is such that failure to designate the hazard may lead to an accidental injury, then a sign in accordance with 1910.145 or other effective means, like proper training, cones, or caution tape, is required.
According to 1910.145(c)(2), “Caution signs shall be used only to warn against potential hazards or to caution against unsafe practices. All employees shall be instructed that caution signs indicate a possible hazard against which proper precaution should be taken.”
