OSHA does not allow non-locking type snaphooks to be used, they only allow automatic-locking (also called self-locking or double locking). An automatic-locking type snaphook has a self-closing gate that remains closed and locked until intentionally unlocked and opened for connection or disconnection.
Opening an automatic-locking type snaphook requires two separate consecutive actions, meaning the user must squeeze the lever on the back before engaging the front gate. This reduces the danger of “rollout” which is the inadvertent opening and disconnecting of components.
