Where the regulations do not specifically call for these signs, then you must make a determination. If you determine that the nature of the hazard is such that failure to designate it may lead to an accidental injury, then a sign in accordance with 1910.145 or other effective means, like proper training, is required. Otherwise, the sign is optional. Employers must decide whether the exposure is likely to cause injury or illness if the sign(s) is not posted.
