In some instances, OSHA requires inspections be documented. Typically, if documentation is required, the employer must generate a certification record of the inspection which includes (at a minimum):

The date of the inspection;
The signature of the person who performed the inspection; and
The number, or other identifier, of the item which was inspected.

Inspection records must be retained and made available for review as required by the applicable OSHA standard.
